Newly Appointed Postdocs - Enrolling in the Plans
This web site has been developed to provide information on all parts of the program, as well as provide a simple enrollment method for you to follow to ensure your enrollment in your selected plans. You may choose any of the medical, dental and/or vision plans for you and your family. Your enrollment is automatic in the life/AD&D, and long-term disability (LTD) plans, whether you choose any of the other benefits offered. The life/AD&D and LTD are offered to postdocs only, not your family members.
Your coverage begins with your appointment start date (hire date) once we have confirmed your enrollment in the plans. You have a 31-day Period of Initial Eligibility that starts from your appointment start date. During this time, you may do the following:
- Enroll in the Medical HMO or POS Plan
- Enroll in the Dental HMO or PPO Plan
- Enroll in the Voluntary Vision Plan
- Enroll your eligible dependents in any of the plans in which you choose to enroll.
- Waive coverage by providing proof of comparable coverage.
It is important to note that you must add your eligible dependents during this initial 31-day timeframe. Failing to do so could prevent them from having access to coverage until the following year’s open enrollment period for a start date of August 1st. You may, however, enroll your eligible dependents if you experience a qualifying, or ‘life’ event. Examples of such events are loss of spouse or partner’s coverage, marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or placement for adoption of a child. If you experience such an event, the change to your enrollment, including the addition of an eligible dependent, must take place within 31 days from the date of the event. Please contact our office for further details on these Special Enrollment Periods.
