Waiving Out of the Woodbury University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
The Annual Semester Waiver Period will begin 6/15/2026
Under California AB 594, the University will approve a waiver when a student shows they are enrolled in other qualifying coverage that meets the Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) standard under federal law.
Who can request a waiver
You may request a waiver if all of the following apply:
- Be enrolled in other health insurance coverage that qualifies as Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC)
- Provide documentation of active coverage at the time of waiver submission
- Attest that they will maintain qualifying coverage during the waiver period
Examples of qualifying coverage include:
- Employer-sponsored group health plans
- Individual plans purchased through Covered California or the private market
- Medi-Cal
- Coverage under a parent or guardian’s plan (if eligible)
If you meet these requirements, your waiver will be approved as required by California law.
What you need to submit
When you submit your waiver request, include documentation showing:
- Insurance carrier name
- Policy or member ID number
- Name of the primary insured (if not the student)
- Effective date of coverage
Additional documentation may be requested if needed to verify active coverage.
