New Postdoc Enrollment
Open Enrollment for Plan Year 2024
The Open Enrollment period for Plan Year 2024 is November 6 – 17, 2023.
Open enrollment allows you to make changes to your current enrollment in the CWRU Postdoc Benefits Plan, or enroll for the first time if you previously waived any plans for yourself and / or your eligible dependents. Any changes you make will become effective on January 1, 2024. If you do not make any changes, your enrollment will remain the same for the Plan Year 2024.
What’s new for 2024?
All benefit plans and coverage remain the same!
There is a slight increase in cost of the benefit plans. To view the plans and rates,

In order to get you enrolled in your postdoc benefits in a timely way (within 31 days of your appointment start date OR during Open Enrollment dates), we strongly encourage you to do the following as soon as possible:
OPEN ENROLLMENT PROCESS
- Review your options – check out the Postdoc Benefits Portal: https://clients.garnett-powers.com/pd/case/. Within the Portal, you can find many useful resources:
- The Open Enrollment Guide provides a wonderful overview of the plans as well as their costs.
- Check out the Documents Library: Your plan offers two medical coverage options. Choosing a health coverage option is an important decision. To help you make an informed choice, your plan makes available a Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC). The SBC summarizes important information about any health coverage option in a standard format to help you compare across options. You can find SBC documents for each plan within the “Documents Library” section. Take the time to compare and contrast what is covered and what is not!
- ENROLL! Once you have reviewed the Postdoc Benefits Portal and have decided which plan best fits your needs, it’s time to enroll!

- Benefits Enrollment Form (for those just starting their appointment)
- Open Enrollment Form (for those making OE changes)
- BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION: CWRU provides life insurance for all postdocs. In the event of your untimely death, we must have information on who you wish to receive your life insurance money. All postdocs must fill out the Beneficiary Designation Form and return it to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Case Western Reserve University, Tomlinson Hall, Room 215, or send electronically via email to postdoc@case.edu.
- ENROLLMENT OF DOMESTIC PARTNERS: For those wishing to enroll their same-sex domestic partner, you will need to complete the following form.
Once the form is completed and signed, please scan and email the PDF copy to Gallagher Benefit Services at: UniversityServices.GBS.casepbp@ajg.com
AND postdoc@case.edu. Once the document is received, we will proceed with your enrollment into the plans.
- Confirmation Email: Once you have enrolled OR made Open Enrollment Changes, please allow up to 10 business days for your information to be received and for your enrollments to be processed by Gallagher. You will receive an email which will confirm that your enrollment is complete. If you have enrolled for the first time, or changed medical insurance plans during Open Enrollment, you should begin receiving mail and ID cards from the insurance carriers with program information and insurance membership cards within 7-14 business days after receiving your confirmation email from Gallagher.
Note: If you have not yet received a Social Security Number, please put your seven-digit Case Western Reserve University employee ID number (found on your offer letter) on your benefits enrollment form. [We will use this number with two zeros preceding it as a pseudo- Social Security Number. Example: if your Employee ID is 1051212, your pseudo SSN would be 001051212.]
