Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

The Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance offered by The Standard Insurance Company is a comprehensive program providing financial relief to your chosen beneficiary(ies) in the event of death. The life insurance benefit amount is $40,000, in the event of death, with an additional benefit payable for AD&D.

The Standard Life/AD&D Insurance provides the medical evacuation and repatriation benefits necessary to satisfy the J Visa Program for those postdocs holding J1 Visa status and their dependents holding J2 Visa status. The $50,000 of Medical Evacuation Insurance and $25,000 of Repatriation of Remains Insurance required is covered through this  Life/AD&D Insurance.

Please complete the beneficiary section (Section 7) of the enrollment form to properly designate the individual(s) to whom your life insurance benefit should be paid in the event of death.

Long-Term Disability (LTD)

This program offered by Standard Insurance provides you a way of protecting your income should you become disabled. It would begin after approximately six months of continuous disability.

Though many of us feel that we will never be disabled, the following statistic tends to disagree with that assumption: Almost 3 in 10 workers entering the work force today will become disabled before retiring (Social Security Administration Fact Sheet, January 31, 2007).

It is important to have a vehicle to offer protection to your income, to allow you to meet your financial obligations when you are unable to work. The Long-Term Disability insurance does just that. The university offers this coverage at no cost to you.
